Work From Home Mums – The Emerging Trend

There is a new emerging trend that is taking over the world and it’s not skinny leg jeans! Women are kicking men’s butt in the business arena and mums in particular are leading the way in work from home businesses.

Mums  have this amazing ability to multitask and we all know the old saying if you want a job done well, ask a busy person. Actually a recent study showed we multitask, on average, 10 hours per week more than Dads. Wow…no wonder we get tired! Just when you think that you couldn’t possibly juggle another ball, one more gets thrown up in the air and somehow we find a way to not drop them. Ordinary mums are doing extraordinary things. No, we are not superwomen but somehow we have found a way to make things work.

“The Next Economic Boom will not be from the Internet, China or India, but from Empowering Women”
~ Kim Kiyosaki,  entrepreneur, author of the bestselling book, Rich Woman.

Kim Kiyosaki is an entrepreneur, investor and  heads up a global team supporting women in achieving financial freedom through investing and business.  Kim is also the wife of international bestselling author, investor and entrepreneur, Robert Kiyosaki,  and has a good understanding of Women in Business.

In her book, Rich Woman, Kim goes on to explain some of today’s realities for women and money.  The shocking statistics for women are:

  • Of the women over 50 about 47% are single and needing to provide for themselves.
  • Women’s retirement income is less than that of men because a woman is away from work force caring and raising the family for an average of 14.7 years as compared to 1.6 years for men.
  • A recent Australian study women on average are paid 17% less than men regardless of qualifications and education leaving less in the kitty.
  • 50% of marriages now end in divorce and in the first year after that divorce a woman’s standard of living drops an average of 45%

This is another interesting fact…a staggering 96% of people who lay awake at night are worrying about 2 things, health and finances. Our health is under siege and it is a war you can not afford to lose. We all know there has been a global economic downturn, personal debt is out of control, job security is at a low and the cost of living is rising – mortgages, rent, child-care fees, food, petrol and the list goes on. Families are feeling the pinch and struggling just to make ends meet.

This all seems like bad news but we have more choices now than ever!

So what are some of our choices?

  • Mums are often forced to go out to the work force whether they want to or not
  • You can work overtime but who wants to do that
  • Change jobs and hope that the grass is greener
  • Sacrifice your lifestyle to save
  • Buy an expensive business and hope that you make money
  • Borrow more money to invest
  • Invest in real estate or the stock market and we all know how risky that can be

None of these seem like a great choice but there is a new trend emerging. This year there has been a dramatic increase in the amount of women who are going from mum to mumprenuer.  Women are using those amazing skills that they have in being mums and the skills they have developed in the workforce to start their own business and are having huge success doing it. With the internet and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, it has never been easier to build a successful business from home.

Did you know?

  • Women own 585,000 of the 1.9 million small businesses operating in Australia.
  • Women own almost half of all home-based businesses and one-third of businesses operating from other locations.
  • Women setting up business from home is the fastest growing sector of the Australian economy.
  • 46% of women run their businesses from home – a 20% increase in the last five years.
  • Women make or influence 80% of all purchasing decisions.
  • Women owned businesses have less external debt, are more profitable and profitable much earlier than those owned by men.
  • The Direct Selling Industry has created more 6 figure and 7 figure income earners that any other industry

Keeping it yummy,

Go After Your Dreams!

My name is Naomi and prior to starting my own home business, I was depressed, lacked purpose and was so tired and sick all the time that I could hardly get out of bed. I was at a point where I didn’t know what to do.

We moved from the city I grew up in, Sydney, to make a better life. I left behind my very close extended family, friends and moved to a town where I didn’t know anyone! My husband still worked in Sydney so we only saw him on the weekend and I was looking after our three children by myself. On top of all that, my mother-in-law who lived with us, ended up getting secondary cancer and I became her carer. At the end of the year she passed away and after a busy Christmas with all 30 of my family coming to stay with me, I found myself at a loss. I didn’t know what to do. I knew I had to find a way to help with our growing bills and big mortgage but I didn’t want to go back to a ‘job’  and I didn’t want another small business.I had 2 Oshkosh Children’s Shops in Westfields in Sydney, but I didn’t want a business that had high start up costs and where I traded dollars for time.

My dream was to work from home and have the freedom to be there for the kids, but I really didn’t know how to make it happen.

I was letting my feelings get in the way of making a decision to change my life. My fear was actually keeping me from finding my destiny.  I let fear stop me from going after my dreams and I was focusing on all the things that weren’t right or that might go wrong. When I finally came to the point where I was going to have to make the decision to go back to work or find a home business, my WHY became greater and I found that passion in me that I wanted something better for myself and my family. My WHY became bigger than my excuses and fear.

There came a point where I made the choice to change my life, got the right training and support and started to discover my purpose. I have learned a lot about myself and I’ve grown personally.

Recently, I won an all expenses 5 star trip to the Gold Coast, a trip to the U.S.A. in April and an all-expenses paid trip to Mauritius for my husband and I. I’m making a great income, helping pay all those debts off and I’m on my way to making a 6 figure income within the next year. I love the freedom I have to take time off for the kids activities, school holidays and to be there when they are sick. Most of all through my business, I am helping champion the cause of malnutrition and make a real difference in the lives of these children that now have a hope.

Now I am committed to helping other people go after their dreams and build their business with our team who are just ordinary mums who have decided to create their life by design and not by default. We train you in using both offline and online methods to build your business. In particular, we train you in using Facebook to build your business. You will have the full support of a great team of other mums who are also going after their dreams. You can work part-time or full-time or fit it around what you are already doing.

Why do you want to work from home? What is your dream? How are you going to make it happen?

Is Fear Holding You Back?

We all have fears but it is how we deal with them that can separate us from the pack, give us a life less ordinary and move us in the direction of our dreams. When I first started my work from home business, I almost pulled out before I had even started because of  the fears I had. I am so thankful that I didn’t let the fear stop me from discovering my purpose and creating the life I have today!!

Fear can be our greatest enemy because it can rob us of new opportunities and experiences without even having any real existence. It is that internal dialogue that can keep us living our average, mediocre life and stops us from becoming the person we are meant to be. We can sabotage our own dreams and goals. What does the voice of fear tell you? It usually tells you that you can’t do it, what will they think, you are not going to make it, what if you fail, what if people tell you “no”? etc. It can also be other people who are negative around you. Live Each Day As Though It Was Your Last

Published by Naomi on October 6th, 2011 - in Mindsets, Personal Development

Live every day as if it were your last, because one of these days, it will be.” ~ Jeremy Schwartz

Can we really live each day as though it is our last? I don’t think we can…we would be exhausted and it is simply unrealistic!! What we can do is apply this concept to how we live our lives and live them to the fullest. It is about having no regrets and pursuing our dreams.

Co-founder of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios,  Steve Jobs just passed away after a long  battle with pancreatic cancer, but his life has made a huge impact across the world. Even from before he was born, the odds were stacked against him. In this speech back in 2005, he urged graduates to pursue their dreams and see the opportunities in life’s setbacks — including death itself.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. What an amazing man, an amazing life, an amazing story…

What is your dream? What is holding you back? There will always be an excuse for not getting started but if you are ready to set aside those excuses you can live the life you always imagined. I’m doing it and so many other women in our team are doing it too. It can be hard at times to run your own business and there will be challenges but not living your life the way you want will be hard too. So I say….CHOOSE your hard. The rewards of a life of passion and purpose will always outweigh any challenges or difficulties you may have.

Go after your dreams and create your life by design not default!

Pushing Yourself Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Are you ready to get into your uncomfy zone?

You may have a home business or you may want to start a home business, either way, you are going to have to take courage to make things a little uncomfortable to grow. The only way you are going to be successful in your work from home business is to break out of your comfort zone. This involves pushing your limits and doing things that we normally would not do or are not normally in our ability to do. You may have a dream to change your life but unless you are ready to push past the anxiety and fear into moving into the unknown, you will have little success in your home business or you may not even start in the first place! Breaking out of our comfort zone will take great courage and persistence because it will be a disconcerting experience.

Here are a 7 things I have learned while kicking myself out of my comfort zone: Continue reading “Pushing Yourself Out Of Your Comfort Zone” »

Do You Have A ‘Plan Be’?

Doing Verses Being

We are human beings, not human doings,  yet so much of our time can be spent in ‘doing’ mode rather than ‘being’. We can get so caught up in the things we have to do, that we stop simply being who we were created to be.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe that ‘doing’ things for our work from home business is important, there is a lot of value in ‘doing’…we need to have clear goals, make ‘to do’ lists, get organised, manage our time well, plan ahead etc. However, when  we get caught up in habitual schedules of working, parenting, eating and sleeping, our lives become a succession of routines and an imbalance can occur.

Often, we get caught up in the act of doing because it can be easier. We can quantify what we do–the results are right there to see, count and  judge.  We can count how many sales we’ve made, we can tick off those things on our ‘to do’ list, we can work out if we have achieved our goals, we can see when the house is clean and tidy. We can also see the results of not doing, such as not achieving our goals,  the full “to-do” list of things that still need to be done, the dishes in sink, or the bed  that hasn’t been made.  Continue reading “Do You Have A ‘Plan Be’?” »
